This was the very first loss we had had in the entire AIMS games. The third and the last game was against Taneatua School. Tauranga Intermediate thrashed them 29-16. We finished 16th out of 56. Also Shelby Peacock got selected for the tournament team, Congratulations!

Hard Luck to the boys seven’s team who unfortunately lost to Royal Oak in the semi-final dashing any hopes of a Gold or Silver medal but fought back to give Pongakawa a good thrashing (33-7) to take third place overall. Tauranga B and C placed 17th and 29th respectively. Congratulations to Simione Togotogorua and Stevens Masters who were selected for the Tournament Team.

BASKETBALL

As you can see from the photo, we were all very stoked that we had gotten into the finals!

Tauranga Intermediate’s team for the NCZT AIMS Games Basketball claimed the silver metal in the Championship. The boys played very, very well all week and only lost the one game in the finals to Northcross Intermediate. Our team topped their division with some very well played wins over one local school, Otumoetai and Wentworth College.

As well as placing second for the boys team, the girls team also placed a great 7th place in their competition. The girls were coming third but then unfortunitly lost to Melville Intermediate in the do or die quarter final!

WBOP Coastline Rugby League

On Wednesday 17 August Tauranga Intermediate entered 2 teams into the local WBOP Coastline Rugby League tournament held at Waipuna Park. Teams played a round robin format. Tauranga Blue won all their matches and went straight to the final. Tauranga Gold lost a pool match forcing them to play a semi-final against Te Whare Kura O Mauao. Gold fought back to win by 1 try in the dying minutes setting up a final against our Blue Team.
Even though these boys are all mates at school, on the field it was a different story with lots of big hits and competitive banter, similar to a State of Origin game. In the end Blue were too strong for Gold winning 7 tries to 4.
Players of the Day went to Luke Cairns Nelson Rm 41 Blue team and Hamiora Bennett Rm 12 Gold Team.

PB/BOP Rock Climbing

As I arrive at school I think to my self “How weird is it to be a school at 7 am?”. It is cold and dark, I can’t see anyone. I jump out of the car and have a look around. I soon find them. Once everyone has got together we hop into the school van and begin our journey to Taupo. It was quite a good trip with only one quick stop at the gas station for food and drinks.

We walk into the hall, we are late. There is a quick talk introducing the leaders and then we are harnessed up and off to climb. All hoping we got to climb easy walls, we get informed that we can only climb one colour. One by one we climb, we had only three minutes to get as high as we could. We got to climb two walls and then we could go off for free time before our finals. Most of us went for a swim. I had to climb second and I could tell from almost everyones faces they were nervous. It didn’t take very long for the finals to finish but to me it felt like forever as each person went up and came down. Around 5 minutes after the finals we had prize giving. Over all our school did really well we got second in both year 7 and 8 over all team scores. We got gold in year 7 boys William Esterman, year 7 girls Eden Faulkner and year 8 girls Me, Paige McGarva, silver in year 7 girls Georgia Bartlam and bronze in year 8 boys Levi Offner and year 8 girls Lenei Curtis. We even got a gold from the table climbing where you had to climb fully down, around and over the table in the fastest time without touching the ground, that was won by Lenei Curtis. We all had an awesome time and were happy with the results.
