AIMS GAMES PRESS RELEASE

From Playground to Podium

As the countdown begins to the week-long NZCT AIMS National Sporting Championships, we can reflect on the amazing achievements of the New Zealand Olympians. In two weeks time over 6000 competitors from 165 schools from Kaitaia to Dunedin as well as 1,200 coaches, managers and officials will converge on the Bay of Plenty vying for NZCT AIMS Games championship glory. As these athletes begin their sporting events they will remember the great successes our Olympic Champions had in London which will inspire and motivate them to be the best.

Striving to be the best is part of growing up in the Quax family. Theo Quax representing Farm Cove Intermediate is competing in the cross country on Sunday, ably managed by his dad Dick Quax – a silver medallist at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. The cross country is the first event on Sunday the 9th of September at Welcome Bay’s Waipuna Park. Mr Quax comments “I see the NZCT AIMS Games as a great opportunity for young sportsmen and sportswomen to meet other young people in an atmosphere of friendly rivalry.”
