New Zealand Cup Cricket Team - Northern Districts Champions ... Again!

A big congratulations to Mr Jeftha and our NZ Cup cricket team  who now move a step nearer to defending the Cup title which they won last year.

Playing in Hamilton at the University of Waikato, the team had to steel their nerves and survive two sudden death games to be crowned Northern Districts champions for 2012.

Playing Poverty Bay Champions - Gisborne Intermediate first, the team opted to bowl under instructions from coach Mr Jeftha. The reasoning for this was the wet conditions would assist the T.I.S bowlers to skid the ball along the turf and trouble the opposing batters. After bowling the team out for 71 the T.I.S batters made hard work of their chase.  With Mikaere Leef the best of the batters with 14.

In the break between games Mr Jeftha rallied his troops and delivered a game plan with a focus on setting a good field and playing an attacking game. Winning the toss and opting to bat T.I.S set 101 to win as a target for Bombay Intermediate School. Marcel Collet top-scoring with 45.

The Tauranga bowlers worked hard with Taylor Kite picking up 3 wickets for 6 runs. The field followed the instructions from the coach with 3 run outs. Bombay eventually dismissed for 85 all out.

The team now move to the next round and are awaiting confirmation of their opponents from the Auckland region.

NZ Cup Success - Cricket

Skipper Mikaere Leef cutting loose!
Well done to our NZ Cup Cricket Team. Their recent wins over Aquinas College and Cambridge Middle School has them advance to the Northern Regional Finals on Monday. Our team convincingly beat both teams and it is pleasing to see the progress they have made since the beginning of term one. Excellent bowling and fielding were the key to success in both battles and we wish them all the best for Monday.
