TIS Tennis Champs

Boys and Girls Tennis Singles Champs were held on Tuesday 26th March, a fabulous, hot sunny day on our school turf.  This year we had good entries in the boys with 20 competitors and only 4 entries in the girls.

The Boys Singles final was a thriller with Taylor Bettelheim Rm 17 beating Anthony Ouellet Rm 15 9/7 in a very close match. Playing off for 3rd and 4th Ethan Larsen Rm 13 beat Marcel Collett Rm 19 9/2.

In the Girls Singles the top seed Kalais Going  Rm 2 had a comfortable win against Caitlin Burns Rm 19 9/2 in the final.  Grace Ede Rm 19 placed third after Jessica Cox Rm 42 defaulted with injury.

I would like to congratulate all the players in this tournament for their excellent sportsmanship, acknowledging their opposition’s good play.  The top three place-getters will receive medals and a trophy for the winner at our end of year Sports Prizegiving.

Max Cricket - Miro Tigers crowned Champions

Well done to Mr Potaka and the Miro Tigers who battled with Kahikatea House to win the inaugural 2013 Max Cricket House Championships. In an action packed, low scoring final where both coaches displayed their  tensions - Miro fought back after only managing to score mid 30's, bowling out Kahikatea.

Surfing

Intermediate surf tag team members 2013 at Tay Street, Mt Maunganui  for the BOP/Poverty Bay inter-schools Tauranga competition on Friday 15th March 2013

The competition was held in small almost perfect offshore conditions at Tay street. The conditions allowed the surfers who were at all levels from first time competitors to NZ Grom series competitors to show what they could do. The teams of four had 7 minutes each to run out and catch 2 scoring waves before comming in and running to tag the next team member. The last surfer had to nominate their best wave as a double whammy which meant they then had their points doubled. Our teams all pushed themselves to achieve their beyond their personal bests both myself and their parents were very proud of them. Ms. Young.
